Laptop cooling pads regulate heat emitted by laptops and prevent them from overheating. This way, serious damage on a laptop’s internal components is prevented and battery life is preserved. Laptop cooling pads are made up of fans to dispel heat, as well as vents to direct the heat outwards. To use, they are usually put under laptops and connected through USB ports. However, cooling pads that use a laptop’s power source defeat the purpose of using cooling pads as they put additional power loads to the laptop. Some do come with provisions for an external power source so this problem has been addressed.
Studies show that build up of heat in laptops are reduced by as much as 20 percent when they are placed at an angle as compared to laptops in flat positions. Some cooling pads are made to draw heat away from a laptop from its underside while others function oppositely by blowing air towards the laptop. Cooling pad fans come with adjustable speeds to create different airflow rates based on temperature and can range from 1800 rpm to 2800 rpm.
Kinds
Laptop cooling pads come in two kinds, fixed and foldable. A fixed laptop cooling pad is a one-piece device that cannot be folded. It is capable of operating very quietly and also consumes less power compared to a foldable laptop cooling pad. A foldable laptop cooling pad on the other hand can be folded for ease in transport and storage. It normally comes with a rubber stand to reduce noise and vibrations. It does tend however to consume so much more power in order to increase fan rotations.
Buying tip
When buying laptop cooling pads, choose those that can be folded into more compact units for easier storage as well as transport. If you intend to take your laptop with you on your long trips, try to look for a cooling pad constructed from lightweight materials.
